Gregory DeCandia, MFA

Gregory DeCandia is a multimedia artist, director, and educator born in Boston, Massachusetts. While attending Emerson College, DeCandia founded Ignition Arts in 2001 and served as its Producing Artistic Director before transitioning to his current role as Executive Director in 2012. DeCandia has written and performed in two original works: Hung on a Blonde Ponytail: An Act of Rock and the award winning solo docudrama "Silhouettes Of Service, which he is currently touring. His third play Animals will be receive a stage reading in 2027 at DreamWrights Center for Community Arts that also staged the world premiere of “If You Knew York” marking DeCandia’s fourth verbatim theatre piece (PHLash: A Mobs Story, Killadelphia, S.O.S) His recent performances have been STEVE IN “Jagged Little Pill” at Weathervane Theater and with Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma: Rock of Ages (Lonnie), Mama Mia (Harry), Frost/Nixon (Jim Reston). At DW he has done the following: Shrek (set), A Christmas Carol (Director), Spring Awakening (lights), Peter and the Starcatcher (director), Stinky Cheese Man (set/props) Newsies (director) Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime (director), Don’t Look Back (director/set) Murder on the Orient Express (set), Sweat (set), In the Heights (lights) American Idiot (lights). Additionally he collaborates with local artists to curate gallery exhibits for all DW shows. Gregory has been involved in over 100 new works as a creator, director, designer, project manager, performer, and/or educator.
