The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering degree program at York College of Pennsylvania is the first step in a career with a meaningful daily impact on the everyday lives of people across the globe. Our bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering offers a broad-based education and a built-in one year co-op work experience to prepare you for work in any aspect of civil or environmental engineering. Your Future in Civil Engineering

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, students "who gain experience by participating in a co-op program while in college will have the best opportunities" as this industry adds an expected 5,500 jobs from 2019-2029. As a York College Civil Engineering major, you'll be trained for possible careers such as:

  • Structural engineering – focusing on the design of various structures including roads, bridges, buildings, tunnels, canals, and dams.
  • Environmental engineering – concerned with prevention, control, and remediation of various contaminants and wastes and with the design of green buildings and sustainable systems.
  • Construction engineering – involved with planning, managing and scheduling construction projects to ensure they are built safely in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Water resources engineering – dealing with the storage, distribution, and management of water within the natural and urban infrastructure, including the design of water and wastewater conveyance systems, storm water controls, and erosion and sedimentation plans.
  • Transportation engineering – focusing on the design, planning and construction of transportation systems, or geotechnical engineering – working with the earth, rock and soil that supports all structures

The Civil Engineering B.S. program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Program Criteria for Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
