York College Hosts Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Honoring 50-Year Voters

A profound display of civic pride and democratic tradition took center stage this morning at the Waldner Performing Arts Center as York College of Pennsylvania hosted the “Honoring Our Legacy of Democracy: Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.”
The event, led by the York County Commissioners and featuring a keynote address from Secretary of the Commonwealth Hon. Al Schmidt, recognized York County residents who have voted in every November general election for the past 50 years, earning them a place in the prestigious Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame.
“We’re grateful for the lifelong commitment of these York County voters,” Secretary Schmidt said. “Hall of Fame inductees bridge generations and serve as role models for all of us. They demonstrate how important the right to vote is, and they prove that dedicated voters can overcome obstacles – such as bad weather, illness, or family or work conflicts – to make their voice heard.”
The Commonwealth inducted 299 people in this year’s ceremony.
“Voting is absolutely core to our democracy, but it is also an essential part of civic engagement,” said York County President Commissioner and Board of Elections President Julie Wheeler. “The ballot is the people’s voice, so we celebrate our York County voters who have shown an outstanding commitment to making their voice heard year after year for decades. They are an inspiration to us all, and they exemplify the true spirit of citizenship that is the foundation for our democracy.”
York College President Dr. Thomas Burns also delivered remarks, applauding the inductees for their unwavering civic commitment.
“We are honored to host an event that deeply reflects the values we instill in our students: responsibility, community, and service,” Dr. Burns said. “To vote in 50 consecutive general elections is not just a personal milestone; it’s a legacy of engagement that inspires future generations.”
The Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame is a statewide initiative highlighting voters who have participated in every general election for half a century. Today’s ceremony celebrated York County’s newest inductees, whose dedication underscores the power of individual participation in the democratic process.
The event brought together local and state leaders, honorees and their families, and community members to celebrate democracy’s enduring strength.
