York College of PA Student Veterans Group Sponsors Nov. 12 Ruck to Benefit Roots for Boots
York College of Pennsylvania’s Student Veterans Group is sponsoring a Nov. 12 ruck—walking or running with a weighted backpack, a common practice in the military—beginning at 2 p.m. at the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center. Proceeds from the event, which is open to the public, will be donated to Roots for Boots, a nonprofit located in New Oxford, Pa., that serves veterans and their families.
Registration is available at https://giving.ycp.edu/3rdannual10Kruck; the cost is $20 prior to the event and $25 on the day of the event. Participants will leave from the Grumbacher Center and can choose a 5K or 10K route on the Rail Trail. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 50 registrants.
The Student Veteran Group is a first-year seminar class of student veterans taught by Dr. Robyn Maitoza, an associate professor of human services. “This is such an awesome event because we honor veterans in our local community and at the College while having fun and giving back to an awesome local organization, Roots for Boots, who serves veterans and their families.”
