York College of Pennsylvania and Dover Area High School are giving students a head start on college credits.

Through a new partnership in YCP’s College in the High School program, Dover students can now earn college credits, taught to the same standards as on-campus courses, without ever leaving their high school classrooms.

The program is designed to expand access to higher education. This approach helps bridge the gap between high school and college.

Dover students will be able to register for their first course, Principles of Management, during the upcoming school year. Courses are taught in alignment with York College syllabi by qualified high school instructors or YCP faculty.

Lauren Martin, Assistant Director of Admissions and Dual Enrollment Coordinator at York College, said the partnership is proof of the shared commitment of creating meaningful academic opportunities for students.

“The goal of ‘College in the High School’ is to expand access to higher education,” Martin said. “Students can earn college credit in a familiar environment, without worrying about transportation, stressful AP exams, or high testing fees. They leave high school with a YCP transcript and credits accepted at other institutions, giving them a head start on their college career.”

Dr. Brian Hazlett, Vice President of Enrollment Management at York College, emphasized the importance of making college-level learning more accessible to all students.

“Expanding access to higher education is one of the most meaningful ways we can prepare the next generation for success,” Hazlett said. “College in the High School breaks down financial, logistical, and even psychological barriers that can stand between a student and their college dreams. When students can experience college-level learning in a familiar environment, they gain the confidence, credits, and momentum to thrive once they step onto a campus.”

“Through this dual enrollment experience, students not only engage with advanced coursework but also gain a meaningful preview of the demands of a college course,” Dover Area School District Superintendent Dr. Catherine Houck said. “Dover is proud to partner with York College to offer this opportunity as part of our commitment to preparing students for success beyond high school.”

The Dover partnership marks the fifth for the College in the High School program, joining Dallastown Area High School, Mount Saint Joseph High School, Hempfield High School, and the Milton Hershey School. The College aims to continue expanding in the coming years.

“In five years, we hope to have partnerships with the majority of schools in York County and beyond,” Martin said. “Opening access to higher education is very important to us, and I can’t wait to see all the opportunities we’ll be able to provide for high schoolers in our community.”
