Each spring as the frost begins to melt and the first buds begin to bloom, we are reminded how lucky we are to be surrounded by so much green (it’s our favorite color, after all). This year, York College is hosting our first ever Earth Day Instagram Contest and we’re encouraging all of our students to participate!
Am I eligible to win?
If you are a current York College student (full or part time), then yes! You are eligible.
When is the Earth Day Contest?
Why, it’s on Earth Day, of course! This is a two-day contest that opens at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21 and closes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 (Earth Day!).
What should I take photos of?
Show us what inspires you outdoors on the York College campus. This could be a group of friends studying at a picnic table, a closeup of an interesting natural detail (like a tree root or a flower), or it can be an expansive view of trees and grass. Get creative!
What shouldn’t I take photos of?
We obviously can’t accept anything that could be considered offensive, so keep it friendly, please. Other things to keep in mind:
- No copyrighted or branded material - don’t take things from the internet and keep logos to a minimum… unless they’re YCP logos, of course.
- No participants without their permission - if we can clearly see a person’s face in the photo, make sure you ask if they’re comfortable with what you’re doing.
Can I submit a video?
Yes!
Can I submit more than one entry?
Sure! We do ask that you limit your entries to a maximum of five to give everyone a chance to showcase their talent.
How do I submit?
It’s easy! Make sure your Instagram account is set to “public.” Then snap a photo on your phone of your favorite outdoor space around campus, share the photo to your Instagram stories, and “mention” @YorkCollegePa. We’ll share all eligible entries to our stories, so everyone can see and appreciate the outdoors from your perspective this Earth Day.
Why should I participate?
The IG story with the most likes will win a spot on the YCP Instagram feed (with credit given to you, of course)! With more than 13,000 followers, this platform offers a great opportunity for your work to be seen by a broader audience.
We can’t wait to share all of your beautiful photos to our Instagram stories and learn about your favorite outdoor spaces. Happy Earth Day!
