The sisters, who share a love of art and design, inspire each other on their individual journeys.

When Aeris Brewer ’29 began her first year as a Graphic Design major at York College of Pennsylvania, she was already following a path carved by her older sibling, Isis ’26, also a Graphic Design major.

This fall, the siblings share more than just a campus. They’re shaping distinct artistic identities as designers while supporting each other through York College’s creative community.

A similar start but diverging styles

In high school, Isis and Aeris participated in York College’s annual York Community Art Scholars Exhibition, which invites area high school artists to exhibit works at Marketview Arts in York. Finalists are invited to campus to attend one-day art classes. One senior finalist receives the DelliCarpini Community Art Scholarship, which provides $5,000 per year toward tuition.

Isis and Aeris were finalists in different exhibitions while in high school. Isis won a juried choice award, and after an extended process of essay writing and interviews, Aeris was chosen as the 2025 DelliCarpini Community Art Scholar.

Through the Marketview competition, the siblings were drawn to York College’s art programs. That early exposure, coupled with the encouragement of the school’s art and design faculty, made York College feel like the right place to start a creative career close to home.

From fine art to digital design

Isis has spent the last four years discovering her design voice at York College, one that combines digital precision with traditional artistry. She has admired the variety and balance in the program, especially those elements that go beyond digital design, such as printmaking and letterpress.

“When I came to York College, I had a fine-art background,” she says. “There was a really big learning curve of me getting used to the software in order to design what I wanted as good as I was able to on paper.”

All of Isis’ digital design projects, whether focused on illustration or typography, begin with paper and pencil. One of her favorite projects was part of her Junior Design Studio class, where students had to create a brand, logo, and packaging for a fictional coffee company in a week’s time.

As part of the Graphic Design curriculum, students also must complete an internship. Isis gained real-world experience at Martin Library in York, where she lettered and illustrated a set of children’s clothing designs.

Expanding the arts in York

Aeris, who has seen her sister evolve from strictly exploring traditional art media to delving into digital design in the last several years, looks forward to seeing what her own future holds at York College. As a DelliCarpini Community Art Scholar, her path will look a little different. The scholarship requires recipients to step into a leadership role in the local arts community.

Visitors to Marketview Arts might find Aeris on stage, welcoming guests or introducing artists. The experience is already helping her build professional connections and confidence while forcing her out of her comfort zone.

Despite being at different stages in the York College program, Aeris and Isis share a vision of using art to express meaning and make connections while building profitable careers through graphic design.
