Spartans Are NCAA Tournament Bound! First-Round Matchup Set for Friday at Home

The York College Men’s Basketball team is heading to the NCAA Division III Tournament!

After an incredible season and a dominant conference championship performance, the Spartans (21-6) are ready to take on the nation’s best.

The tournament bracket was just released, and York College will face John Carroll University in the first round this Friday—right here at home! Also competing in York’s regional bracket are NYU and SUNY Cortland. 

  • Friday:
    • 4:50pm Cortland vs. NYU
    • 7:20pm: York College vs. John Carroll
  • Saturday:
    • 7:20pm: Winners from Friday

Spartans Claim MAC Commonwealth Title in Historic Win

York secured its place in the NCAA Tournament by winning its first-ever MAC Commonwealth championship, defeating Alvernia University 82-67 on Saturday at Charles Wolf Gymnasium. Senior Kai Cipalla delivered an MVP-worthy performance, dropping 26 points to lead the Spartans to victory.

The championship win marks the program’s fifth conference title and its third under head coach Matt Hunter. The Spartans’ two MAC Commonwealth tournament wins came by an average margin of 16 points, showcasing their strength and determination. 

A Season to Remember

  • The Spartans have won 11 straight home games and are 12-1 at Charles Wolf Gymnasium this season.
  • York has shot 50% or better in 12 games, demonstrating their offensive efficiency.
  • This marks the eighth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
