York College Of Pa To Host April 3 Screening Of ‘My Ascension,' Discussion Of Suicide
York College of Pennsylvania will host an April 3 screening of “My Ascension,” a film that highlights the story of Emma Benoit, whose suicide attempt at age 16 left her paralyzed. Benoit travels across the country, sharing her story and trying to open the conversation about mental health and the stigma surrounding it. She will be joined after the screening by Matt Dorgan of Dallastown, who created the nonprofit Building Bridges for Brianna after his daughter completed suicide, and Del Franz from York/Adams MH-IDD Program.
The event begins at 6 p.m. in DeMeester Recital Hall, Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall, and is open to the public free of charge. Preregistration is available on Ticketleap.com. Local mental health organizations will have tables set up at the event.
“My Ascension” also highlights the stories of two remarkable young people who tragically did not survive their suicide attempts. The audience learns first-hand from their families, friends, school officials, and experts about the devastating effects of suicide and what can be done to prevent it.
