Live like a Spartan
You didn’t apply to York College because you wanted to spend your college days doing nothing but going straight to and from class. You wanted more. If you look at our most successful students, they are the ones who get involved early, even if it’s just signing up for a club.
By now, you know York doesn’t play around when it comes to giving you lots to do. But that only goes so far. Whether you’re living here or commuting, you have to make the effort to be involved — and we have people here to make that as fruitful and fun as possible.
What should I do while I'm here?
Maximizing Your Time Outside the Classroom
The stress of starting college can cause some students to retreat. Do the opposite. Rather than hunker down in your residence hall or parent’s house, stop by the ever-popular bingo nights or hypnotist shows. Invite a friend to try the rock-climbing wall. It’s not academics-or-nothing. Balance helps!
Clubs and Organizations
There are over 100 clubs and organizations on campus, which means you have more than 100 ways you can get involved on campus. We assure you, getting involved will be a pillar experience for you as a York College Spartan. That’s why the Student Activities and Orientation Office host the Involvement Fair during your first week on campus. Get a head start and check out the social media pages of these popular organizations and offices on campus.

Six Things to Know About Enjoying Life on Campus
- Go to the Student Involvement Fair. What if you don’t have a clue what to join? Right before classes start in the fall, there’s a big fair on the main campus lawn with reps from just about every club. Sign up! You can get questions answered and make new friends. Upper-level students say that signing up for at least one club (and following through!) was one of their big keys to success.
- Don’t wait for the invite. You’re invited. It’s easy to think “I don’t really know anyone going to this” and skip out on an event or program. But once you start classes, you already will have a built-in network of new faces. This is the exact time to try new things
- There’s always something to do. The student-run Campus Activities Board (CAB) makes sure here is something going on every Friday and Saturday night, and throughout the week as well! Featured events range from bingo (a campus tradition!) to trivia, comedians, and arcade nights. The highlight of the year is the Spring Concert. YCP has hosted nationally touring acts such as Steve Aoki, Panic! At The Disco, Sam Hunt, and Yung Gravy.
- If you don’t see what you want, ask! You can start your own club here if you want! Recent example: Students started a gardening club and are working with College Administration on plans for sustainable gardens around campus! Talk to studentsenate@ycp.edu if you want info on creating your own club.
- It’s OK to ask for help. Maybe it takes you a little longer to get adjusted than others, even after you’ve tried. Reach out to your Resident Assistant, your academic advisor, a faculty member, or, truly, anyone on staff at York. Let them know you’re having a tough time adjusting and they can make sure you get the support you need so you can get back on your feet.
- Download the YCP App. The YCP App is your one-stop shop for resources and events. This is where you can easily access the New Spartan Days schedule, Fall Orientation schedule, and all events throughout the year. The YCP App is available through the App Store and Google Play.
Campus Safety
We’re committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the York College community. The Campus Safety department manages campus parking, YCP ID cards, crime prevention, fire safety, and all emergency services. The office is located in the Manor Hall Northeast Lobby.
