Driving and Parking

• Regulations must be observed at all times, including evenings, weekends, during class registration periods, exam and reading days, holidays, semester breaks, and during periods of inclement weather.
• Left-hand turns are prohibited from the main College entrance onto Country Club Road between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• Time-Limited parking spaces are for temporary use and are monitored year-round, including evenings, weekends, holidays, semester breaks, reading days, final exams, and snow days.
• Accessible parking spaces for the disabled are not temporary parking spaces. If you do not have a disabled-persons permit or plate, do not park there.
• It is unlawful to lend, resell, rent, lease, or give away any York College parking permit that is/was issued to you.
• Do not park in roadways, turn lanes, or fire lanes unless directed by emergency services personnel.
• ALWAYS ensure that you display your parking permit on the rear-view mirror.
• A Permit is only valid on the vehicle to which it is registered. Obtain a temporary permit if operating a different vehicle, such as a rental. Available online at http://bit.ly/TempPermitYCP
• West Campus permit holders are restricted from parking on the Main Campus between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• Faculty and staff parking spaces/lots are restricted to faculty and staff only, between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
• If you need to load/unload your vehicle, activate your vehicle’s 4-way flashers to indicate temporary parking (15-minute maximum).
• Pay attention to parking lot signs and traffic control devices.
• Visitor parking is for visitors only, and students will be cited for parking in these spaces.
• Ensure your visitors/guests obtain visitor permits. YOU are responsible for any citations they receive. Send your visitors/guests the following link so that they can print out their visitor permit prior to arriving on campus: http://bit.ly/YCPVisitorPermit.
• ALWAYS yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and come to a complete stop at stop signs on campus.
• The speed limit on all campus roadways is 15 mph.

"A parking permit is not required after 5 p.m."

False. Permits are required to park on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long — including breaks, reading days, and exam periods.

"Time-restricted parking areas aren't monitored during nights and weekends."

False. Time-restricted parking areas are monitored to ensure that anyone who needs those spaces will have the opportunity to use them for loading/unloading vehicles.

"Parking in fire lanes and turn lanes is allowed during nights and weekends."

False. Vehicles should never be parked in these areas, as doing so creates a hazard for vehicular traffic, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles.

"Anyone can park in the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center lot without a parking permit." 

False. A permit is required to park at any campus facility. There is also no parking allowed in the Grumbacher lot from 2 - 6 a.m., unless approved by the Department of Athletics and Campus Recreation. Their staff will advise Campus Safety when permission to use the lot has been granted.

"Main Campus residents with West Campus permits can park on Main Campus between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday through Friday."

True! However, vehicles parked overnight must be moved to the West Campus resident parking areas by 7 a.m.

"If you need to park in a faculty or staff parking lot to load/unload your vehicle, you can do so if you activate your flashers." 

True! This tells Campus Safety officers that you are parked temporarily (15-minute maximum). Do not park in roadways or fire lanes; you must park in a valid parking space.

"If a student's guest is parking on campus, they or the student must obtain a visitor parking permit for their vehicle."

True! This permit will entitle them to park in any student parking area except in lots reserved for the houses Curry, Wenger, Arnold, Kieffer, and Springettsbury. Those guests must park in commuter or resident lots.

"Parking longer, or overnight, in time-restricted parking spaces is allowed after 5 p.m."

False. Time-limited parking spaces are restricted to the posted times 24 hours a day, all year long — including weekends, holidays, reading day, final exams, semester breaks, snow days, etc. Vehicles parked in these spaces longer than the time posted will receive a citation for the violation.
